Overview of breast augmentation with implants

Choosing the ideal cup size is often a consideration. For a natural breast augmentation, the goal should be an increase of one to two cup sizes at most. Larger implants can appear more noticeable.

For instance, augmenting from a C cup to a D cup can achieve a very natural result, whereas going from an A cup to a D cup may not.

The two types of implants: saline and silicone

Which scar for my breast augmentation?

The scar placement options for breast augmentation are:

  1. Around the areola

The scar is generally placed at the lower part of the areola. It is often very discreet.

  1. Under the breast

Often chosen to minimize visibility, the scar is placed under the breast, at the level of the inframammary fold. This scar is highly aesthetic as the breast naturally hangs above it, concealed in a shadowed area.

  1. Under the arm

This scar is very discreet and hidden under the arm, but may not be suitable for patients who frequently wear tank tops.

Where to place the implant for my breast augmentation?

During breast augmentation surgery, depending on skin thickness and glandular tissue, the implant can be placed in different locations:

  • Breast augmentation in front of the pectoral muscle.
  • Breast augmentation behind the pectoral muscle.
  • Breast augmentation in Dual Plane (the upper part of the implant is under the muscle, the lower part is under the gland in front of the muscle).

If the patient has sufficient glandular tissue to conceal the implant, the round or anatomical breast implant can be placed in front of the muscle.

If the patient is very slender and has little tissue in the cleavage area to conceal the implant, the round or anatomical breast implant will be placed behind the muscle in the upper part, thus achieving a Dual Plane breast augmentation.

The process of breast augmentation with implants

Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anesthesia. You will arrive at the clinic in the morning of the procedure and then have the option to:

  • Return home the same day (ambulatory procedure)
  • Stay overnight at the clinic

Unless in exceptional cases, Dr. Benjamin Sarfati’s technique avoids the use of drains.

Recovery after breast augmentation with implants

A compression bra is necessary for 1 month following the procedure. It helps maintain the implants in place and reduces swelling after breast augmentation. Pain is typically present in the first 48 hours post-surgery but is well managed with regular pain relievers.

Breast augmentation with implants: what’s the cost?

The cost of breast augmentation varies depending on the technique used and the type of implant used (polyurethane implants are more expensive than silicone implants). The price of breast augmentation with implants varies according to:

  • The shape of the breast implant used (round or anatomical)
  • The composition of the breast implant (silicone, saline, polyurethane)
  • Additional procedures (mastopexy or ptosis correction)
