Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a quick, safe, and highly effective treatment for hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis involves excessive sweating, which can significantly impact social interactions for those affected.
For over 20 years, Botox treatment has been used to manage axillary hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating). In rarer cases, it may also be recommended to alleviate palmar-plantar hyperhidrosis (sweating of the hands and feet).
Sweating is a normal response to body temperature increase (heat, physical activity, fever) and emotions. Sweat is produced by eccrine and apocrine glands beneath the skin, regulated by the sympathetic nervous system and controlled by the hypothalamus. Persistent or transient dysregulations can lead to excessive sweating, causing discomfort and self-consciousness.
