Hyaluronic acid injections

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring macromolecule in the human body that provides skin with its radiance, suppleness, and resistance to external aggressors. In aesthetic medicine, hyaluronic acid injections are used to fill expression lines that weigh down the face.

Different areas for hyaluronic acid injections

Explore the benefits of hyaluronic acid injections performed at Dr. Benjamin Sarfati’s clinic.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of your skin

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a molecule naturally present in the dermis, joints, cartilage, and eyes. The body produces about five grams of it daily, helping skin tissues renew through effective hydration. HA acts like a sponge, capturing and retaining water in the deeper layers of our skin.

The injectable used in aesthetics is obtained through biotechnological processes. Microorganisms cultivated in fermenters naturally produce the HA molecule. The synthetic product obtained is identical to that produced by the body, ensuring it is not perceived as a foreign substance when injected. There is minimal risk of allergy, except in rare cases, and it does not accumulate in your body.

Hyaluronic acid vs. Botox: what are the differences

Botox and hyaluronic acid injections: from what age

Hyaluronic acid injections enhance all facial areas: how?

Diminishing wrinkles

Hyaluronic acid injections target deep, static wrinkles (nasolabial folds, marionette lines, perioral lines, etc.), revitalizing the face with immediate radiance. They erase signs of fatigue, tighten enlarged pores, diminish under-eye circles, and hydrate dry skin.

Restoring volume

As skin undergoes changes from bone structure shifts and texture alterations over time, facial volume decreases and skin laxity increases. Hyaluronic acid injections offer a nonsurgical facelift, addressing the entire face.

Correcting imperfections

Hyaluronic acid injections smooth, shape, and refine facial contours, including nose and chin corrections. Medical rhinoplasty gently reshapes the nose bridge, tip, and fills the area between the nose and forehead. Hyaluronic acid is also used to correct a receding chin or fill chin folds.

Enhancing lip fullness

With aging, lips lose volume and definition, appearing thinner and less defined. Lip skin is delicate and prone to early aging if not properly hydrated. Hyaluronic acid injections redefine lip contours, enhance the cupid’s bow, increase lip volume for symmetry, and provide hydration.

Preventing signs of aging

Hyaluronic acid injections proactively combat skin aging, improving skin elasticity, and delaying the onset of fine lines and wrinkles.

Contraindications and risks of hyaluronic acid injections

In some individuals with multiple allergies, it’s necessary to start with testing very low concentrations of hyaluronic acid. In case of uncertainty, the doctor may request two tests spaced fifteen days apart. Each time, 0.1ml of hyaluronic acid is injected subcutaneously on the anterior side of the forearm. If significant redness appears at the injection site, it indicates an allergic reaction, which of course contraindicates further injections.

It’s important to note these minor contraindications, which however remain relatively rare. The most important contraindication concerns individuals with autoimmune diseases such as digestive diseases like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, skin diseases like autoimmune bullous dermatoses (autoimmune pemphigoid), and neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc.

A thyroid assessment is advisable if there are doubts during the clinical examination, especially in individuals with personal or family history, particularly in women over sixty.

For all these reasons, it’s imperative to have an initial consultation to ask all your questions to the doctor and dispel any doubts. You must have complete trust in your practitioner and ensure they are trained and certified to perform hyaluronic acid injections. They should also use high-quality products that have been proven effective over time and have an excellent reputation, such as those from the Juvéderm range.
